I’m a horrible person whose been largely MIA from their blog recently but I have a good reason! I promise! I’ve been SUPER busy photographing and cataloging ALL my jewelry for Etsy. I FINALLY have a shop up and it ACTUALLY has stuff in it! I swear! Do you know how labor intensive it is to photograph and catalog stuff? Inventory! Yikes! And I had no idea just how much STUFF I had actually made!
In addition to Etsy, I’m pleased to announce that I will participating in the Westminster Canterbury of the Blue Ridge’s annual fundraiser. The event will be held on Saturday, May 3, 2014 at the Charlottesville N*Telos Wireless Pavilion in Charlottesville, VA. I’m told this is the first year they’ve opened it up to the public and they’re going for a whole street fair/craft bazaar feel to it and I’m super excited since they reached out to me and invited me to participate. It’s a huge opportunity and I’m so grateful they’re giving it to me and it’s really awesome that people are starting to hear about my jewelry and myself and finding ways to contact me with opportunities, since it’s just another step in the direction towards owning my own business.
I got my acceptance letter in the mail yesterday for the Scottsville Fall Artisans Festival. I did it last year, it was the first year they did it. It was my first craft show and quite a lucrative venture so I’m excited to be rejoining the James River Arts Council (JRAC) and all the participating local artists for what I hope becomes an annual event on my calendar again this year.
The show will be held on September 28, 2014 under the Scottsville, VA Farmer’s Market Pavilion, along the banks of the James River. It’s going to be a very happy birthday for me (mine is the 27th).
I apologize in advance to my wonderful family and friends for the crazy I’m about to unleash on y’all but I’m going bigger and better for Round Two!
2013 Fall Artisans Festival
and still my Christmas wish hasn’t come true yet.
I’m soooooooooooo close to 150 “likes” on my facebook page, also called Bonefish Designs. I’ve been sitting at 142 since my last post. I need eight more people to like my page to make my wish come true. How hard is that? I don’t think I’m asking for much, my wish doesn’t involve money or goods to be exchanged, merely a few moments of your time, Dear Reader, and a few clicks of the mouse.
Will you please help my wish come true?

So facebook finally let me give my page a legit URL, not just that ridiculously long code consisting of numbers and various punctuations. If you like what I post here, you should follow me on facebook,
I tend to update my facebook fairly regularly, and more often, usually when I finish a new piece and Lord knows, I make so much jewelry, I don’t want to bombard my blog with every last little thing, unless it’s a big project (like Morphine or Nirvana) so most of it ends up on my facebook page instead.
I also tend to handle my business through facebook since I don’t yet have an actual website up and running so if anyone is interested in custom jewelry or other accessories, finding me on facebook, you’re much more likely to get a quick response out of me.
You can find me at http://www.facebook.com/BonefishDesigns
check me out, give me a like, and bring some business my way! I need money for Christmas presents!
Had a rather pleasant surprise today. I got a phone call this afternoon. At first, I wasn’t going to answer it, since generally I don’t answer calls from numbers I don’t know but since it was a local number, I went ahead and answered it.
On the other end of the phone call, was a lady who’d gotten my card from a friend. She wanted to know if I had time later this week that I could meet with her. She had some old jewelry and wanted me to look at them, see if I couldn’t turn it into something new.
I told her I’d be more than happy to take a look so on Thursday I’ll be going to do my first consultation for a commission that’s NOT a friend or family member!
Did You Know?
Did you know that Bonefish Designs is on Facebook? We are 🙂 if you like what I’ve shared on my blog, head over to Facebook and give me a “like”. I’d really like to break 100!!! Plus you’ll get more behind the scenes and a wider view of the stuff I do! Not to mention the HUUUUUUUGE selection of stuff for sale!
No, this post is not about the cheap hair dye goths have been buying from Hot Topic for years now.
I’m 12 days (eek!) away from my craft show debut and the manic super-amped up creative energy is giving way to panic:
- how much should I make?
- am I pricing it fairly?
- will anyone buy it?
- Is it too generic?
- too old?
- too childish?
- Should I make sets or let people mix and match?
these are only a minor number of the panic stricken scenarios and doubts running through my head right now.
I’m trying to focus my energy on jewelry only for the show that’s in two weeks, figure when I have an entire month to devote to production I can start worrying about other stuff.
I just want to do well, really well, well enough that I can justify the crazy I’ve been putting my family through, as well as the craft-supply bomb that’s gone off in my living room. I really need to be able to justify myself, that I’m not just wasting time.
This show is really the first chance I’ve gotten to pursue my small-business dream and I’m terrified of failing.
I want to be able to appeal to all ages, bring in as many customers as possible, but I’m also afraid of going to “old” to appeal to kids, or too “dark” or too “kitsch” for adults (my personal style tends to lean towards punk rock/ rocker edge).
I’ve spent all day online reading, researching craft fair advice and I think I’m going to go crazy by the end of this!

The festival is going to be on Sunday, September 29th (my bday is the 27th!) I’m so excited! We were supposed to know by August 9th.
